Drains and Developments offer a wide range of services;  Our registered drainlayers will unblock, repair or simply lay new drains and we can make your drainage system look attractive too.

The location of a blocked drain is a easy task for our registered drain layers. We make the inspection easier by getting the drainage plans from CCC and trouble shooting the blocked drain. Our drain layers inspect the drainage layouts and use probing rods and cameras where necessary to locate your blockage.

Locating the position of a blockage is a process of elimination.

  1. We inspect the trap (DT), then the toilet bowl if it is on the ground floor. If the toilet bowl is clear but the FAI is overflowing, the blockage is probably at the interceptor trap or between the trap and the sewer. Interceptor traps have a tendency to block, so this is a good place to start.
  2. If the interceptor trap is clear then the blockage must be farther up the drain. However, if sewage is backed up at the interceptor trap then either the trap is the problem or the blockage is on the sewer side of the trap. Perhaps the sewer is blocked.
  3. Check neighbouring drains to eliminate or confirm a sewer blockage.
  4.  Clearing a blocked interceptor trap: When something is lodged in the trap, we will try to remove the debris rather than plunge it through into the sewer.
Drainlaying in Christchurch

The purpose of a Storm water is to capture runoff from rain to prevent flooding in areas that are prone.

Our storm water drainage experience encompasses subdivisions, sports field drainage, upgrading existing infrastructure services or installing new systems for local council.

All our staff are experienced in laying various diameter pipe and culverts in varying soil conditions as well as dewatering. We use trenching shields when required for those bigger deeper jobs as pictured.

Drainage pipes

Retention ponds are used to manage stormwater runoff to prevent flooding in areas that are prone.

Recently we developed 8 attractive storm water retention ponds in Canterbury as pictured. Covered with stone and planted out to make a attractive display.

Sewer is a system of pipes used to transport human waste away from the any built up community. In rural areas where houses are spaced so far apart that a sewer system would be too expensive to install, people install their own, private sewage treatment plants. These are called septic tanks. A septic tank is simply a big concrete or steel tank that is buried in the yard. The tank might hold 1,000 gallons (4,000 litres) of water. Wastewater flows into the tank at one end and leaves the tank at the other.

Drains and Developments has completed many sewer related projects, privately and commercially so we are experienced in all new sewer reticulation including subdivisions, upgrading or replacing existing sewer infrastructure.

Drain tank

Drainage is a group of pipes laid underground and used to remove waste-water commonly referred to as foul water or service water (storm-water) from any tap, septic tank or waste water system.  There are many methods of catching waste-water.  Listed are recent projects completed.
