Excavations

Drains and Developments are aware that there are a number of reasons why site excavations is required. We will remove concrete, asphalt, soil and rock and other unwanted materials from your site fast, safely and efficiently. We have the best equipment and the right experience to provide you with exceptional service.  We are confident you will be pleased by the quality and service.

There are several different types of excavations work required for many different jobs. See below for the works Drains and Developments offer.

Is used for the laying of electrical lines and plumbing fittings, There are two approved methods of building trenches: shoring and sloping drains and developments will discuss with each client what best method will be used for their site works.

Drains and Developments use dredging when unblocking large water race around roads and farm lands. Again experienced operators will access the work because this work is done partly underwater to remove bottom sediments and disposal of the waste recovered.

Soil gradation is an import aspect of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering because it is an indicator of other soil properties such as compressibility, shear strength and hydraulic conductivity. Grading soil will often control the ground water drainage of a site. Drains and Developments will drill a serious of test holes and have the ground checked by GMF test

Commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, It is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipes, conduits and cables in a shallow arc along a path by using a surface launched drilling rig, with gives minimal impact on the surrounding surface area. Directional drilling is used when trenching or excavating is not practical. Ie as in under a existing building.

Hydro Excavation is the process of removing or moving soil with pressurised water. An air conveyance or vacuum is then used to transfer the soil or debris to a debris tank. This allows for a non-destructive and more accurate way to excavate soil and locate underground utilities.

Hydro excavation is very useful for several industries. Excavation, plumbing pipes and sewer, slot trenching, installation of posts, poles, etc are just a few examples of hydro excavation applications.

If you have a job that requires using a Hydro Truck, give us a call and we will provide you with a quote.

Are a crucial part of the house building process so we insure we have the right people operating our machinery to get the perfect levels to your foundation requirements.

House foundations

This basic foundation to a home needs to be level and to the right specifictions off the house plans.  Our experienced team work in with the builders and other site contractors to get the jobs done perfectly.

Warehouse foundations

Foundations at this warehouse were removed and replaced. We brake all existing foundations to make way for the new.

Drains and Developments currently operates 6 heavy excavators from 1 ton to 20 ton. Earth moving, mounding, leveling hill side excavations are among some of the excellent work our experienced digger operators specialised in.

Hillside dig outs, leveling, rock breaking, retaining walls and boring holes can be tricky on the steepest of slopes but our staff work safely to get the work done.

Our current piling capability includes bored piles of up to 450mm wide and 3.5 metres deep, timber, precast and steel driven piles in a range of sizes.  We also offer ground improvement in the form of concrete columns plus heavy compaction using our 20 ton digger.

Ground support techniques used by drains and developments are driven timber retaining walls.  Ground anchoring of all earth is accessed on site for the best system that would suit the individual job.

Recent piling projects undertaken include:

  • Akaroa:   Use of  timber posts were driven into the earth to make a retaining wall to support all earths on the hillside where roading is being constructed for subdivision purposes.
